Android XR AI TED2025

Google recently showcased its Android XR smart glasses platform during a live demonstration at the TED2025 conference. This wearable device integrates the Gemini AI assistant, visual memory capabilities, and multilingual support. The presentation also highlighted the headset codenamed “Project Moohan” from Samsung, which leverages the Android XR ecosystem.

Google Aims to Revive Its Smart Glasses Project

According to TechSpot, the Android XR glasses had previously appeared only in video teasers and limited previews. Now, Google has decided to offer a closer look at the product for users and enthusiasts. Shahram Izadi, head of Google’s Android XR division, presented the new generation of smart glasses at the recent TED conference, emphasizing the device’s ability to integrate seamlessly with daily activities.

The live demo revealed a wide spectrum of capabilities for the Android XR glasses, bringing this product closer to its predecessors. At first glance, the glasses resemble standard eyewear, yet they house additional features such as a miniature camera, microphone, speaker, and a high-resolution color display embedded directly into the lens.

Google’s Android XR glasses are designed to be lightweight and support prescription lenses. The device can connect to a smartphone to leverage its processing power and access a range of Google applications.

During the session, Izadi used the Android XR glasses to display his presentation notes and demonstrated a practical daily feature by capturing a photo. However, the centerpiece of the new glasses is their integration with the Gemini AI. A Google executive showcased the eyewear’s ability to compose poetry, recall a book glanced at moments earlier, and locate a hotel room key. All these tasks were executed through simple voice commands and real-time visual processing.

The Android XR glasses also offer rapid translation between languages such as English, Persian, and Hindi. Other notable features include visual explanations of charts, text-based object recognition — such as identifying a music album and playing a track — and navigation via a 3D map overlay displayed directly in the user’s field of view.

Final specifications for Google’s product remain undisclosed, but expectations include a high-resolution camera, a lightweight frame, and the likely inclusion of the Snapdragon XR2 Plus Gen 2 chipset.
